Hosta - Large Sizes

(Dwarf to Small at Hosta) (Medium Sizes at Hosta2)

Hosta (HOS-ta)

Great plants for shady locations.  Hostas range in size from tiny dwarfs with leaves only an inch or so long to huge varieties forming clumps up to 6' wide.  The nearly limitless variety of leaf shapes, sizes, patterns and colors make them one of the most versatile plants available for the shade. They are useful as ground covers, edging plants, or  specimens, in the border, in masses, or mixed with other shade loving plants such as ferns, Astilbes, Polygonatums, Liriopes, and many others for naturalized shade gardens. We carry a nice variety of Hostas, but if you are really serious about them you must visit our sister website, Bridgewood Gardens. They specialize in Hostas and have an amazing selection. Large - This group includes some of the best known Hostas. They are among the largest plants commonly grown in the garden.  While it may be true that their size alone makes them interesting subjects, they do not depend solely on their huge leaves for their value in the garden. We doubt that anyone who has seen a 4 or 5 year old clump of one of these could fail to be impressed.  Some of these plants form mature clumps 4' or more across, some have flower scapes 6' to 8' tall.  While obviously not appropriate for every garden, if you have the right place for them they are truly spectacular. Just like puppies, the character of many of these plants changes substantially as they age.  Often the most dramatic leaf texturing and form emerge only after the plant is a few years old. Dwarf and Small Hostas are on the Hosta Page and Medium sizes are on the Hosta2 Page.

802700 Hosta 'August Moon’    Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $7.95 ea.
Forms an impressive mound of large, rounded, heavily puckered yellow leaves. Probably a sieboldiana hybrid. Bright light gives the best color. White flowers.

804800 Hosta 'Blue Angel’      Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $9.95 ea.
There are a great many large blue cultivars, some say too many. This one has large, heart-shaped leaves, not puckered but nicely veined.  Flowers are white. It is probably of sieboldiana lineage, but seems to be faster growing and less crinkled than most of the sieboldiana hybrids. It also seems to get larger than most.   Go to the Great Hostas Page - Buy in sets of 3 and Save!

817800 Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet’     Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $14.95 ea.
Heart-shaped, undulating, apple-green leaves with wide creamy white margins. A vigorous grower, it multiplies rapidly and forms a nice clump. Fragrant white flowers. Sun tolerant and pest resistant.

823100 Hosta 'Guacamole’      Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $14.95 ea.
Frankly, I didn’t know why this plant was so popular until I saw it in a large clump. It really is quite impressive. It is a sport from ‘Fragrant Bouquet’ found in tissue culture. It has rounded light green leaves with a dark green margin. Flowers are light lavender and fragrant, not as large as plantaginea, but flared open, up to 3" wide.

829000 Hosta 'Krossa Regal’      Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $7.95 ea.
Undulating, frosty blue-gray leaves, held upright and arching, form a large, distinctively vase-shaped plant. Lavender flowers on spikes up to 5' tall.  One of the best and most popular of all Hosta cultivars.   Go to the Great Hostas Page - Buy in sets of 3 and Save!

840100 Hosta 'Paul's Glory’      Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $14.95 ea.
Beautiful yellow centered sieboldiana. The heart shaped leaves have a blue margin and are nicely puckered when mature. White flowers.

843000 Hosta 'Regal Splendor’     Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $14.95 ea.
This is the variegated form of 'Krossa Regal'. Beautiful undulating gray-green leaves with irregular white to creamy yellow margins. Certainly one of the most beautiful and distinctive of the newer introductions. Lavender flowers.

844700 Hosta 'Sagae'    Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $19.95 ea.
If we could only grow one Hosta, this would certainly be one we would consider. Undulating frosted green to gray-green leaves with varying yellow to creamy white margins.  Excellent heavy substance. Forms an outstanding large specimen when mature. Pale lavender flowers on 5' scapes. This is the same plant that was once called Hosta fluctuans ‘Variegated’

845400 Hosta 'Savannah’      Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $14.95 ea.
A new introduction from down South.  A vigorous grower that forms a large mound of medium green leaves with a white margin. Fragrant, pale lavender flowers.

849000 Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans’    Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $9.95 ea.
Many of today’s expensive blue leaved Hostas are hybrids or sports of this beautiful specimen sized plant. It forms a huge mound of heavily textured blue foliage, 4’ or more across.  There are many hybrids and sports of this plant selling for a lot more, but for the price, you can’t beat it. This plant has been around for a long time and you might find small variations among plants obtained from different growers.   Go to the Great Hostas Page - Buy in sets of 3 and Save!

852100 Hosta 'Sum and Substance’       Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $9.95 ea.
This one certainly has the largest leaves of the commonly available Hostas. The leaves are chartreuse to gold, depending on exposure, sun tolerant and slug resistant. It needs plenty of space. Lavender flowers.

852200 Hosta 'Summer Fragrance’     Add to Cart
Quart Pots - $9.95 ea.
A plantaginea hybrid with large medium green leaves with a wide, irregular white margin.   Fragrant lavender-purple flowers.
