Teucrium hircanicum
‘Paradise Delight’ is a compact selection that has upright
purple-red spikes, almost like a Veronica. The spent flowerheads persist
with the purple color so it seems to bloom all summer. |

This is a diverse group of
perennials, often valued as much for their foliage, resembling
maidenhair ferns, as for their clusters of delicate blooms. Individual
flowers are petalless, with 4 or 5 colored sepals and numerous,
prominent, showy stamens. Most will do best in part shade, but will grow
in full sun with adequate water. They need fertile soil, well-drained
but not dry in summer. Be patient because they are late to break
dormancy in the spring.
Thalictrum 'Black Stockings' is a new
selection of Meadowrue described as follows: "This tall
beauty has long, nearly black stems, contrasting green leaves and is
topped by fluffy lavender flowers in large flat- topped corymbs. Very
showy for the back of the border." |

The Veronicas vary widely, from creeping,
mat forming groundcovers to tall, stately plants with dramatic upright
flower spikes.
Veronica peduncularis ‘Georgia Blue’ is named for the former
Soviet State, not our Peach state, where it was collected by Roy
Lancaster. The leaves are small, dark green and nearly burgundy on the
undersides. In spring the low growing foliage is nearly covered with
sparkling blue flowers, very showy. We get a lesser, repeat bloom in the
fall. Here in Zone 7 the foliage turns burgundy in fall and stays
evergreen through the winter, making this an outstanding, weed
smothering groundcover. A single plant can have a spread of 2-3’, but
can also be kept smaller by trimming. |

This is a large and varied genus, widely
distributed throughout the world. Best known for the common pansy, V. x
wittrockiana, the genus also includes many species that are suitable for
the rock garden, border, woodland, or wild garden.
Viola ‘Dancing
Geisha’ is a beautiful and unique Violet with large, heavily cut
leaves, veined and streaked with silver. The spring flowers are quite
large, a soft lilac pink, very attractive. Great for edging, in the
shady rockery, and especially nice as a container plant.
